Dunwoody

Located just ten miles north of Atlanta, Dunwoody is a family-friendly urban destination that is easy to access and easy to get around. Dunwoody residents live in a variety of homes. Some have Colonial-style architecture, some are traditional two-story brick homes on generous half-acre lots, and others are swim & tennis communities with homes in brick, stone and cedar shake. Dunwoody has become a place where residents can enjoy a combination of outdoor parks, family events and abundant dining and shopping.

Dunwoody

The Cherokee Indian tribe originally inhabited Dunwoody before it officially became a city in 2008. Ebenezer Primitive Baptist Church is one of Dunwoody’s most historic buildings dating back to 1829. It is still active and home to one of the city’s oldest cemeteries where many of Dunwoody’s founding fathers are buried.

Schools

Dunwoody residents attend one of the DeKalb County Public Schools or a local private school. There is a bus pick up located at Orchard Park Shopping Center with private school transportation to Woodward, Greater Atlanta Christian, St. Martin’s Episcopal School and others. Dunwoody offers two charter elementary schools. Kingsley Charter is Dunwoody’s only gold level Safe Routes to School participant. Vanderlyn Elementary is a neighborhood school that was awarded the Georgia School of Excellence Award and the Platinum Award for academic achievement. Dunwoody High School offers two career academies through the National Academy Foundation program.

Dunwoody has a small town feel with a big city heart. Shoppers can enjoy the boutiques of Historic Dunwoody Village, Park Place, Perimeter Place or Perimeter Mall. Diners can enjoy quaint delis and local cafes. Art lovers should visit the Spruill Center of the Arts and Gallery, recognized by Creative Loafing as one of the “best galleries for emerging artists”. Dunwoody also has several parks including the 102-acre Brook Run Park or the Dunwoody Nature Center for the annual Butterfly Festival, where families can go inside enormous tents full of free-roaming butterflies.
